Concentrated Solar

Our project addresses the problem of hot water insecurity by creating a self-sufficient device using solar energy to heat water. Up to five gallons of water are heated from room temperature to boiling point using exclusively heat flux from the sun. The heated water is stored in an insulated tank in order to minimize heat loss overnight. From our predictions, the water should take 6 hours to heat to 90 degrees and testing is ongoing. On a global scale, concentrated solar energy can be used not just for water heating but also for electricity production, especially in remote places.
